Arts and Culture

The Town of Telluride enjoys a flourishing arts and cultural community. Telluride can boast about its role as one of the first Colorado ski towns to cultivate a lively summer festival and event season.  Telluride has provided a model to other communities struggling to balance a viable summer and winter economy. Several of Telluride’s festivals have celebrated anniversaries numbering over thirty years!

The six member Commission for Community Assistance, Arts and Special Events (C.C.A.A.S.E.) works under the Telluride Town Council to administer an annual community support, arts and event grant program. The Commission provides recommendations to Council on grant fund distribution through an application and review process. The Commission also organizes an annual event calendar, at times mediating as the calendar relates to limited community resources such as the use of public venues and the event banner location across Colorado Avenue.  The Parks and Recreation Director acts as the staff administrator and liaison for C.C.A.A.S.E. To access further information on C.C.A.A.S.E. programs

The newly constructed Michael D. Palm Theatre for the Performing Arts is located at the entrance to Telluride as part on the Telluride Middle-High School complex. Click here for a link to the Theatre’s new website.  The Telluride R-1 School District manages this magnificent new venue.

Other performance venues in the Town of Telluride include the historic Sherdian Opera House and the Nugget Theatre.  The Town Park festival stage hosts several large music events each summer.
