If bears do not forage successfully in town, they will then move on to areas that provide them with the food they need to hibernate through the winter. Houses have been “broken into” by bears looking for food. Exterior signs for your business go through a staff-level review with the Historic Preservation Department and the Issuance of a Certificate of Appropriateness must occur prior to installation.

Real Estate Transfer Tax is a 3% tax paid on the sale of properties within the Town of Telluride and Sunset Ridge. There are several exemptions from RETT which can be found in our Municipal Code.

The waitlists for Shandoka, Virginia Placer and the Boarding House are very long, and we do not anticipate housing coming available before Spring, possibly even Summer.

All adults in the apartment must work at least 1000 hours per year within the boundaries of the Telluride R-1 School District and be legal residents of the United States. Exceptions are available for applicants with disabilities, elderly applicants and families who have been issued a HUD housing assistance voucher - please contact Shandoka staff for exception details.
150sq/ft. Comes with regular twin bed/mattress, mini fridge, desk/chair, storage locker and chest. None of these items can be removed from the room in order to accommodate the prospective tenants personal items. There is also ski storage located outside of the unit.

Each residence is allowed one guest permit with their residential permit application. There is no physical guest pass issued. You must add a vehicle when applying that will serve as your guest vehicle. Manage your guest vehicle in the parking permit portal by logging in to your account and clicking on your name on the upper right corner of the screen and selecting "your permits". Edit your guest vehicle by clicking on the pencil on the right side of the guest vehicle and enter your guest's plate number.
Parking permits are available for purchase or renewal starting the month they expire.
Residents or businesses can change their plate number assigned in the parking permit portal by logging in to their account and clicking on their name on the upper right corner of the screen and selecting your permits then editing the vehicle information by clicking on the pencil on the right side of the vehicle.

No, you must pay to park in the business district from Aspen to Alder and on adjoining side streets where posted. All other streets allow free two-hour parking, permits exempt. The center lane has a 30 minute limit by permit only. You may not drop off or pick pedestrians up from the center lane. Centerlane permits are designated for Delivery Companies (i.e. Fed-Ex, U.P.S, Budweiser) and Colorado Avenue business are eligible for one transferrable Centerlane permit.
The Marshal's Department contracts towing services with private providers and payment for the tow / impound is made directly by the registered owner of the vehicle to the tow company. Impound fees will have to be paid before a vehicle will be released. Daily storage fees begin to accumulate after the first 24 hours that a vehicle has been in police custody, so it is recommended that the recovery of a towed vehicle not be delayed.
A parking ticket will accompany the impound paperwork and a court date is provided should an appeal of the circumstances be desired. Failure to pay the parking ticket prior to the court date, or failure to appear at the court date, will result in a doubling of the parking fine.

A Group Booking is defined as multiple bookings made by the same individual for the same nights for multiple campsites.
Due to the incredibly high demand; Group Bookings are NOT permitted.
An individual camper can stay a maximum of 7 nights in a 30 day period of time and new this year a maximum of 14 days for the entire season.
A maximum of 6 people at a vehicle campsite (Premium and Standard) and 4 people at a primitive walk-in campsite are permitted. Limiting the amount of usage on a site helps prevent erosion of the campsite. If you have more than the maximum number of people allowed, another site will need to be booked if available.
Campers are allowed to have guests. All guest vehicles must be parked outside of the campground in an authorized parking area. Guests are permitted during the day until 9:00 pm, but only a maximum number of 6 people in the vehicle campsites and 4 people in the primitive sites are allowed at night/overnight.
All reservations must be made online. No payments are accepted over the phone or in-person.

No, street parking is your best option for a longer combined length rig. Across the street from the town park entrance along the river facing west is the closest option. If you drive past the town park entrance to the other side of the east end community use that bus turnaround and come back into any available spaces.
Check-out time is by 2:00 pm MT on your scheduled departure date. Please be courteous of our campground attendant as there is much to do anticipating the arriving campers who may be weary and anxious to get set up.
If you need a site in a certain area or need to be in sites next to your party, please obtain that information from them directly. The Parks and Recreation Department is unable to provide reservation information to anyone but the person who made the reservation. This includes spouses and other family members.
Quiet hours at the campground are from 10:00 pm until 8:00 am daily. Please be courteous of your camping neighbors.

It is unlawful for any person to camp or sleep overnight in or on any Town-owned park, open space or other public property, or remain within or on such lands beyond the hours of authorized public access or use. Clothing including cutoffs, colored cotton, street clothes, garments or braces with exposed metal, underwear, or clothing worn for exercising immediately prior to swimming are prohibited.
Pool memberships are available for immediate family members only. Each member of the family would need to be listed on the membership, as memberships cannot be split or shared. Memberships purchased prior to swim lessons provide a 10% discount on lessons.

The public shower facility is located at the pool entrance and the cost is $3.00 for 5 minutes of hot water. There is token machine just outside the restroom that will convert your bills into tokens. Please note that the office cannot buy back tokens, so please only purchase what you will use.

Parking is very limited in the town of Telluride. There is a commuter parking lot located on the west end of town that is free for all day parking. Recommend walking, riding your bike or using the town shuttle.

Some of the most pervasive weeds in this area are Dames Rocket, Oxeye Daisy, Yellow Toadflax, Cypress Spurge, White Top, and Scentless Chamomile. When weeds are hand-pulled, it is best to put them in plastic bags and then into the trash. Do not compost the plant material as the seeds may be viable.

The cost is determined by how many employees work in the Town of Telluride. For a short-term rental, it is determined by how many sleeping rooms (including lofts/nooks) are in the unit. See Telluride Municipal Code Section 6-1-20.
All business licenses expire December 31st and must be renewed January 1st. Payment for business licenses is due no later than January 6th.
Licenses are only prorated in the final quarter of the year (October 1). The fee is half off the regular fee.

No. If you do not have a physical presence in the Town of Telluride, you do not need a business license, however, a sales tax license may be required. To apply for a sales tax license, follow these instructions. The process is the same as obtaining a business license., but during the application process, indicate in the description that you need a sales tax license only. The business license administrator will approve you for a zero-fee business license with an attached, non-expiring, sales tax license.
No. Telluride is a Home Rule Municipality and requires all business license owners doing business within the Town of Telluride to have a local business license, as well as being registered with the state. We also self-collect sales tax, so you will pay tax to the state and to the Town of Telluride separately.
Yes. Please contact the Telluride business license administrator at (970) 728-2159 to inform them of the sale date so they may close your account. You will continue to receive email notifications until your account is closed. An account cannot be closed until all taxes owed the Town have been remitted.
If the tax identification information will remain the same, then yes. If a new business entity will be formed with a new tax identification number, then your account must be closed, and the new owner will be responsible for opening a new account. Business licenses are non-transferable.
Before your license can be approved, you must submit a notarized Residential Rental Affidavit (Affidavit) to the Town. There are rental restrictions in the Residential Zone and the Affidavit is required pursuant to Telluride Land Use Code Division 6. A new business license will not be approved until the Affidavit is submitted.
You may rent your property for no more than three times in a year (Jan-Dec). These rentals may not accumulate to more than 29 days total. If you rent over the amount, your account will be processed by the legal department and you could be fined up to $1,000 per day of violation.
