Town Council Proclamation Recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month

San Miguel Resource Center supports residents in Telluride and beyond

(October 24, 2023) – Telluride, CO --- Telluride Town Council and San Miguel Resource Center (SMRC) recognized October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in a proclamation during today’s regular meeting of Town Council. Purple ribbons hung throughout the Town of Telluride symbolize the fight against domestic violence and show support for all survivors of domestic violence, as well as for people who choose to dedicate their time and energy to supporting those survivors.

“During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we urge every community member to be part of the solution today and every day. Support and believe survivors. Educate yourself and others. Model non-violent and respectful behavior through your everyday actions. Speak up about abuse,” said Lauren Norton, Bilingual Advocate at the San Miguel Resource Center. “We envision an equitable community in which every person has the right and the ability to be safe, respected, empowered, and free from oppression, violence, and the fear of violence, and we hope you join us in our work to make this vision a reality.”

The San Miguel Resource Center has a 24-hour confidential hotline to help residents in Telluride, Mountain Village, Placerville, Norwood, Rico, Naturita, Nucla, Egnar, and beyond. Those in need can call to receive support with domestic violence or sexual assault. SMRC is committed to listening, believing, and doing all it can to support a survivor in reclaiming their safety, personal security, and independence.
