Key infrastructure investments, affordable housing, and sustainability

Telluride, CO --- (November 22, 2024) - Town Council adopted the 2025 budget and its annual Goals & Objectives during its regular meeting on Tuesday, November 19. This comprehensive plan reflects the Town’s commitment to financial sustainability, infrastructure improvements, and community-focused initiatives.

The $103.3 million 2025 budget includes $79.4 million in projected revenues and investments in key infrastructure projects, such as wastewater treatment upgrades, accessibility enhancements, and affordable housing initiatives. Despite anticipated shortfalls in some funds, Town plans to maintain strong reserve balances to ensure operational resilience and flexibility.

Highlights from the adopted budget include:

  • Infrastructure Investments: $3 million is allocated for the Mahoney Bridge replacement and $1.8 million for regional wastewater system improvements.
  • Affordable Housing: Continued funding for projects such as Shandoka Building F and Virginia Placer properties, with support for regional partnerships addressing housing needs.
  • Sustainability Initiatives: Enhanced support for energy efficiency programs and expansion of electric vehicle infrastructure.
  • Community and Parks: $1.5 million is earmarked for the completion of the Town Park Warming Hut & Washstand project, along with additional recreation upgrades.

Council also approved its 2025 Goals & Objectives, centered around financial soundness, quality infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and inclusivity. Priorities include long-term gondola planning, fostering economic diversity, and expanding affordable housing opportunities to support the regional workforce.

“The 2025 budget and goals reflect the Town’s dedication to preserving Telluride’s unique character while addressing its critical needs,” said Mayor Teddy Errico. “Our investments in infrastructure, housing, and sustainability are essential to securing a vibrant future for our residents and visitors alike.”

ABOUT TELLURIDE
Nestled amidst the majestic San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, Telluride's captivating narrative is deeply rooted in the ancient legacy of the Ute tribe, the valley's original inhabitants, who crafted their summer camps along the San Miguel River, naming the land "The Valley of Hanging Waterfalls." In the late 1700s, Spanish explorers traversed the rugged terrain, laying the groundwork for subsequent exploration and settlement. A fervent mining boom followed, igniting a rush of prospectors to the region, culminating in the founding of Telluride in 1880. Telluride's allure as a hub of opportunity attracted fortune seekers, bolstered by the arrival of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad and groundbreaking innovations like the hydroelectric power plant in Ames. Set in a box canyon amid forested peaks at the base of the popular Telluride ski-and-golf resort, the town’s historic district houses landmarks like the Sheridan Opera House and the Telluride Historical Museum while playing host to culture, music, arts, outdoor recreation, and festivals with unrivaled views and dramatic locale.
