[ARCHIVED] Town opens applications for 2024/2025 Temporary Winter Community Housing

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Town opens applications for 2024/2025 Temporary Winter Community Housing

Three spaces available, applications due by noon on Monday, December 2

Telluride, CO --- (November 22, 2024) – The Town of Telluride is now accepting applications for its Temporary Winter Community Housing program for the 2024-2025 season. This innovative program, launched in 2021, offers a vital housing solution for community members facing the area’s challenging housing market. Applications for this year’s program will be accepted through noon on Monday, December 2, 2024, with move-in between December 10 and 13.

The program provides nine spaces for RVs, campers, or trailers located along the north side of the Town Park parking area. Each space includes access to electrical pedestals, restroom and shower facilities, and a dishwashing area at the Town Park swimming pool. Monthly rent is $315 per space, with tenants responsible for shower fees per the Town’s fee structure.

Running from November 25, 2024, to April 13, 2025, the program supports community members who work within the Town of Telluride. Eligibility is based on proof of 1,000 hours of employment in the past 12 months or documentation of secured future employment. Each unit can house no more than two people, unless granted an exception for a larger extended family unit, and allows for up to two domestic animals. Spaces accommodate dwelling units measuring up to 25 feet in length.

Now in its fourth season, the housing option has continued to evolve, thanks to collaboration between multiple Town departments and partners. Parks and Recreation Director Stephanie Jaquet credited the teamwork of staff and local contractors who implemented infrastructure improvements and coordinated ongoing operations.

Applicants interested in one of the three remaining spots can find program details and the online application at bit.ly/tottwchp. Applications should be submitted via email and will be reviewed and considered in the order by which they are received.

For more information, assistance with the application, or to submit a complete application, contact the Town of Telluride Rental Housing Division at 970-508-4471 or rentalhousing@telluride-co.gov.

ABOUT TELLURIDE
Nestled amidst the majestic San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, Telluride's captivating narrative is deeply rooted in the ancient legacy of the Ute tribe, the valley's original inhabitants, who crafted their summer camps along the San Miguel River, naming the land "The Valley of Hanging Waterfalls." In the late 1700s, Spanish explorers traversed the rugged terrain, laying the groundwork for subsequent exploration and settlement. A fervent mining boom followed, igniting a rush of prospectors to the region, culminating in the founding of Telluride in 1880. Telluride's allure as a hub of opportunity attracted fortune seekers, bolstered by the arrival of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad and groundbreaking innovations like the hydroelectric power plant in Ames. Set in a box canyon amid forested peaks at the base of the popular Telluride ski-and-golf resort, the town’s historic district houses landmarks like the Sheridan Opera House and the Telluride Historical Museum while playing host to culture, music, arts, outdoor recreation, and festivals with unrivaled views and dramatic locale.
