Regular snow removal operations commence
Weekday text notifications are available to review routes and schedules
Telluride, CO --- (December 10, 2024) – The Town of Telluride’s Public Works Department has begun regular winter snow removal operations, ensuring roads and sidewalks remain clear and safe throughout the season. This year, the Town will continue weekday text notifications to inform residents and visitors of daily plowing schedules and parking restrictions.
The Town plans to publish daily plowing schedules, including street closures, no later than 5:00 p.m. the evening prior. To avoid ticketing and towing, vehicles must be moved from streets scheduled for plowing by 7:00 a.m. To sign up for text notifications, text ‘SNOW’ to 38276.
Public Works follows a tiered snow removal system:
- Priority Streets: W. 145 Spur Hwy., W. Colorado Ave. (Main Street), school bus routes, and the Galloping Goose route are plowed first and often require multiple passes during a storm.
- Other Streets and Alleys: These are plowed once priority streets are clear.
- To maximize parking availability, the daily schedule will also highlight streets where plowing will not occur, allowing parking even in zones with “No Parking” signs.
Snowplow operations may create windrows—snow pushed to the side of the street or the center of Main Street for storage. Residents and businesses are responsible for clearing windrows in front of driveways or parked vehicles. Public Works is unable to accommodate individual requests for snow clearing.
General operating hours for Public Works, including snow and ice control, are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays when staff is available. Staff are scheduled on-call during weekends and holidays; contractors may assist when possible.
Sidewalks must be cleared of snow and ice within 12 hours after snowfall ends, as required by Town Code (Sec. 11-1-90). Help prevent ice damming by shoveling at least six inches of drainage from the edge of the sidewalk to allow snowmelt to reach storm drains. Residents and contractors are reminded not to shovel, blow, or plow snow back into streets or parking areas, as this creates hazardous conditions. Violations can be reported to 970-728-3076.

Las aceras deben quedar limpias de nieve y hielo en las 12 horas siguientes a la caída de la nieve, tal y como exige el Código Municipal (Art. 11-1-90). Ayude a prevenir la acumulación de hielo quitando con una pala al menos 15 centímetros de drenaje del borde de la acera para permitir que la nieve derretida llegue a los desagües pluviales.
