Telluride, CO --- (December 18, 2024) – The Town of Telluride has opened applications for a limited number of remaining units in the Voodoo Employee Rental Housing Project. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis through 5 pm on Tuesday, December 31.

The units and respective rents are as follows:

  • One Studio at $2301 per month
  • Three 3-bedroom Units, one for $2961 and two units for $3455 per month
  • One 4-bedroom unit at $3562 per month

An initial lottery took place in August to place initial tenants who qualified with a minimum of three years of employment history in the Telluride R-1 School District. Eligibility for new applications will require only one year of employment history in the Telluride R-1 School District, expanding eligibility to a broader audience of employees with rental housing needs.

The Voodoo project was completed in October as part of the Town’s ongoing commitment to providing rental housing for its workforce. Interested applicants can find detailed information about the project, eligibility requirements, and the application process by visiting telluride-co.gov/voodoo.

“These units represent an important step forward in addressing Telluride’s housing needs,” said Director of Community Services DeLanie Tapson. “We encourage anyone eligible to apply quickly, as we anticipate strong interest in this limited opportunity.”

The Voodoo Housing Project includes 27 rental units with studio, 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom layouts. These units are targeted for affordability to income groups in the 110% to 170% AMI (area median income) range, with an average of 140% AMI for San Miguel County. The project also features approximately 3,700 square feet of tenant-finish commercial space, a public restroom, and the new Free Box nearly twice the size of the historic Free Box on North Spruce Street.

ABOUT TELLURIDE
Nestled amidst the majestic San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, Telluride's captivating narrative is deeply rooted in the ancient legacy of the Ute tribe, the valley's original inhabitants, who crafted their summer camps along the San Miguel River, naming the land "The Valley of Hanging Waterfalls." In the late 1700s, Spanish explorers traversed the rugged terrain, laying the groundwork for subsequent exploration and settlement. A fervent mining boom followed, igniting a rush of prospectors to the region, culminating in the founding of Telluride in 1880. Telluride's allure as a hub of opportunity attracted fortune seekers, bolstered by the arrival of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad and groundbreaking innovations like the hydroelectric power plant in Ames. Set in a box canyon amid forested peaks at the base of the popular Telluride ski-and-golf resort, the town’s historic district houses landmarks like the Sheridan Opera House and the Telluride Historical Museum while playing host to culture, music, arts, outdoor recreation, and festivals with unrivaled views and dramatic locale.
