Climate Action
The Town of Telluride developed its Climate Action Plan (CAP) in 2022 and is currently working on its Climate Action Roadmap to implement the plan. To reach our ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2040, we will need to build and maintain our collective focus and create an environment of support and collaboration.
We envision a resilient, healthy, and more equitable Telluride for today’s residents, year-round visitors, and future generations. Through collective and committed climate action, we can create a thriving, safe, and sustainable environment that prioritizes the conservation of natural resources, supports local economies, and affords all members of the community a high quality of life. The strategies and actions in this plan are designed to (1) reduce GHG emissions (“mitigation”) to reach our goal of carbon neutrality by 2040 and (2) prepare our community and the natural environment to adapt to the unavoidable impacts of climate change(“adaptation”). Community action will be critical in addressing climate change impacts and reducing emissions.
Strategies and actions in this plan are organized by their primary objective(mitigation or adaptation) across six focus areas. The vision associated with each focus area is described below:
