For businesses located outside Telluride, the fee depends on how many employees will actually work in Telluride — not the total number of employees in your business. Please include this number on your application.
For short-term rental licenses, the cost depends on the license type and the number of sleeping rooms in the property (including lofts and nooks).

All business licenses expire on December 31st each year and must be renewed by January 1st.
Payment for the renewal is due by January 6th every year.

Yes! If you apply starting October 1st through the end of the year, your license fee will be prorated at half the regular fee.

If you have any physical presence in Telluride—like meeting clients, advertising, or delivering goods for payment—you need a business license, even if your main office is outside town.

However, you may need a sales tax license. To get one, apply like you would for a business license, but be sure to write in your application that you only need a sales tax license.
The Business License Administrator will then approve a zero-fee business license with a non-expiring sales tax license attached.

No. Being registered with the State of Colorado does not replace the need for a Telluride business license or sales tax license if you have a physical presence or taxable activity in town.
You still need to apply for the appropriate licenses with the Town of Telluride.

Yes. Please contact the Telluride Business License Administrator at (970) 728-2159 to let them know your sale date so they can close your account.
You will keep getting email reminders until your account is officially closed. Keep in mind, your account cannot be closed until all taxes owed to the Town have been paid.

Non-profits don’t need a business license in Telluride (per Telluride Municipal Code 6-1-50).
However, depending on what your event involves, you might still need to get a zero-fee tax license to collect and pay taxes to the Town.

No. The Town of Telluride uses a paperless system called MUNIRevs for business licenses. All applications must be submitted online at telluride.munirevs.com.
If you don’t have a computer, there’s a computer kiosk in the Town Hall lobby, and you can also use computers at the Wilkinson Public Library.
