The Free Box

A community space for sharing—free and open to all.

The Free Box is a shared community resource where people can give and take gently used items at no cost. It works because neighbors look out for one another and follow a few simple rules. Thank you for helping keep the Free Box safe, clean, and useful for everyone.

How the Free Box Works

  • Take what you need.
  • Leave what you don’t need.
  • No money. No bartering. No resale on site.
  • Items should be clean, usable, and something you would feel comfortable giving to a neighbor.

Hours of Operation

  • The Free Box is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • It is closed overnight from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The area is monitored. Illegal dumping and misuse may result in fines or charges.

What You Can Leave

  • Clean clothing and shoes
  • Small household items
  • Books, games, and toys in good condition
  • Unopened personal care items

If you wouldn’t use it yourself, please don’t leave it here.

What You Cannot Leave

  • Trash or recycling
  • Large furniture or mattresses
  • Broken, damaged, or dirty items
  • Food, alcohol, or medications
  • Hazardous materials (paint, chemicals, sharps, etc.)

Leaving prohibited items is considered illegal dumping.

Be a Good Neighbor

  • Place items inside the Free Box—do not leave items on the ground.
  • Take only what you can carry.
  • Do not sort, spread out, or discard items on site.
  • Respect posted hours and nearby neighbors.

Why Rules Matter

The Free Box stays open because the community takes care of it. Following these guidelines helps prevent vandalism, misuse, and overflow so the Free Box can remain a positive resource for everyone.
